UPDATED ITINERARY

Well, I have a confession to make.  Planning this trip is NOT as easy as I thought it would be. In theory, it may seem like it, but on paper it has become a huge, sometimes frustrating, time consuming, part of my life – though how can I complain about planning a vacation?!

Our plans are continually changing as we get closer and have to sort through the hairy details. Our original plan was to stay in each country, for about a month, in this order: Costa Rica, Panama, Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, Spain, Italy, France, The UK, and The Netherlands.

Since then we have found out several things that altered our plans:

·      I will have some friends in Peru during the summer, so we added in Peru so we can visit them in Lima and also stop by Manchu Picchu!

·      La Tomatina is August 30th in Spain. We were originally planning to go there sometime in September- so we decided to shorten up our time a few other places so we could make it to the world’s largest food fight.

·      We just recently started looking at flights from South America to Europe. We discovered that to get from Santiago to Buenos Aires it is a 22 hour bus ride across some uninteresting parts of Argentina. That, however, was not where we ran in to issues. The problem is, we will be in South America during their winter. The boarder crossing to get from Chile to Argentina is in the middle of the Andes Mountains, which means lots of snow. The boarder is very likely to be closed for days, sometimes weeks in the event of a big snow. We are not looking to get stuck in Chile, nor do we want to spend $1,200 on a last minute flight to get us to La Tomatina on time.

If you read my last blog post on the Schengen Zone you are aware as to why we had to reorder and redo our planned time for Europe. If you missed it, it should be listed just below this post at the bottom of the page.

So, just to keep everybody up to date, our new schedule is as follows:

May 1-23: Playa Bejucos, Costa Rica

May 24-31: San Jose, Costa Rica

June 1-31: Bastimentos Island, Panama

July 1-July 4: Panama City, Panama

Remainder of July: Lima and Cusco, Peru

August: Valparaiso, Chile

Sept & Beginning of Oct: Spain

Remainder of Oct & Nov: Italy, France and The Netherlands

December: The UK

Beyond December we don’t have a firm plan. This is, of course, subject to change again. We haven’t event left yet and are already learning a lot about important flexibility is! (:

We are getting very excited about everything! It is coming on faster than we thought. We can’t wait to experience what the world has to offer, and share all our adventures with you.

The countdown has begun!
